Guatemalan families are in crisis - Please help!

Tax deductible
The most vulnerable communities in Guatemala need our help right now.   The immigration crisis is the result of the lack of hope for those fleeing north. To help people to choose to stay in their communities, the Wakami Foundation supports programs that provide sources of income to rural women.  This income allows them to build healthier families and communities.  The need for support for these women has never been greater.

No one should have to walk 1,000 miles to give their family a chance. Please support the Wakami Foundation's efforts to give Guatemalans  hope and a reason to stay in Guatemala.

Wakami believes in connecting rural women and families to the global marketplace to create sources of income that change lives and communities.  By giving women a stable source of income, they are able to make the right choices for their families and for their communities.

Wakami has linked over 1,000 Guatemalan families to markets that provide a stable source of income.  Wakami's methodology has successfully incubated global connections to the wood, fibre and fashion accessory markets that gives these families the resources they need to stay in their own communities and build healthy families.  Our methodology is not based upon giving women charity but instead upon giving them the ability to earn income.  When women earn income, they make choices that benefit their families.

The Need.  To give Guatemalan women the power to change their families and communities so that there is no reason to migrate, we need to scale our efforts.  Our goal is to expand to new markets and train new communities to connect them to those markets.  We believe in the power of the marketplace and these opportunities are exactly what will help to keep people from immigrating.  Guatemalan's love their country and their community just like everyone else.  If we give them hope they will build a better world in their own homes.

The Plan.
Wakami is looking to raise $100,000 for this year's non-profit operations to expand our methodology to five new market opportunities.  Wakami works with some of the poorest and most forgotten women of Guatemala who often have little education, live in communities with limited water and electricity and who struggle with the barriers of a society that places little value on rural women.  We do not give charity, we provide a way to earn income using the power of global markets.  Your donation will go to provide the technical and community based support that allows these women to earn an income. That income changes everything, giving them hope, the strength to stand up for their families and the power to have a voice in their homes and communities.

The Wakami Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity and all donations are tax deductible.  The Wakami Foundation website tells you more about the amazing work being done.  In addition to supporting our operational needs, 10% of the funds raised from this campaign will be used to pay for the educational costs of the children of Wakami women.

Given the current immigration crisis, our funding need is critical.  Please support our work and help us continue to create these opportunities for the women of Guatemala.  These women don't want to walk to the border.  They don't want charity. What they want is a chance to sell what they make and earn the means to support their family.

Thank you for your support!
