Exterior Restoration of the Whitney Schoolhouse

HELP US RESTORE THE WHITNEY SCHOOLHOUSE!
Few American, one-room schoolhouses remain standing today. The Whitney Schoolhouse in Kane County is the second-oldest such schoolhouse in northeastern Illinois. Thanks to dedicated efforts of the Skyline Council of Landmarks Illinois, this historic structure that tells a unique part of Kane County’s local history will be restored and reused as a public history and education center.
To date, Skyline Council and Campton Township have raised over $130,000 in pro-bono services, donated supplies, and grants to complete investigative work, clean-up, structural repairs, and a new foundation.
We invite you join us in taking the next step: exterior restoration. Your gift of any amount will help us restore the 167-year-old structure to reflect its 1852 appearance and secure it from the elements.
$8 pays to restore 1 square foot of siding
$14 pays to restore 1 foot of door or window trim
$18 pays to replace 1 square foot of roofing shingles
$25 pays to install 1 foot of gutter
$68 pays to replace 1 foot of rafters or wall studs
$108 pays to restore 6 square feet of roofing shingles
A gift of any size will help!
We are also actively looking to partner with qualified individuals and companies in the building trades to provide pro-bono services for the restoration.
