Andrew's Recovery

On May 21st Andrew woke up paralyzed on his left side. He was promptly rushed to NRGH where after initial examination it was discovered he had a large bleed in his brain. He was put into a medically induced coma and air lifted by helicopter to Victoria General Hospital. Andrew was then rushed to surgery where they were able to remove the clot and stop the bleeding. Andrew was kept in a coma for three days to let his brain and body heal. The full extent of the paralysis and effect of the bleed were unknown.
On May 24th Andrew was woken from the coma and taken off the ventilator, he is alert and in good spirits. Unfortunately the paralysis has not subsided. It is unknown how much mobility he will regain on his left side. Andrew is starting to regain some sensation and has been able to move his knee a few times. He has not had any movement in his left hand at this time. Andrew has been moved to a rehab ward at Vic General to help with recovery. Even with recovery Andrew will not be able to go back to work due the severity of his illness.
June 12: It has been discovered that the bleed was caused by a cancerous brain tumor. We are awaiting further information from the oncologists as to the severity and course of treatment.
During this devastatingly difficult time Andrew and his family need help with the cost of medical bills, travel to Victoria and other associated costs of recovery. Andrew’s mother, Marina has been staying in Victoria with him.
When Andrew is able to leave the hospital he will need assistance with the cost of medication and equipment to help him be mobile.
We don’t know how long Andrew’s recovery journey will be and would like to provide him with any joy and entertainment he desires at this difficult time. Including providing something other than so called hospital “food”.
