The Gift of Sight

The Gift of sight. Something so easily taken for granted. Without it imagine how it would turn your life upside down. Becoming a prisoner to your own home. Not able to work, drive or cook for yourself.

My heartbreaks as my friend faces this anxiety everyday. He is in desperate need for surgery to correct his vision.

Bill Rice has lived his life as a machinist. Always working with his hands. Never short on creativity. He was always teaching us how to build things, woodwork, leather making. He was that neighborhood dad that opened his home to all. If you had a bad day and need somewhere to go? It was a safe place to relax. If you were hungry? The delicious smells would knock you down at the door.

If you needed a disc golf partner? He was down.... With Ottis and Buster of course (his fur babies) I remember in high school there was a kid John Clark who's father faced the same struggles as Bill. Going blind due to cataracts. Bill was moved by his struggle. So he gave his father his Firebird to sell. Helping to raise money for the surgery. Giving him back the gift of sight. Irony as he now needs the same surgery.

The last year has been a downward spiral. He has suffered a heart attack, was forced to quit his job, and lost two furbabies that were loved by us all. The heart attack was nothing short of expensive. With his sight Bill would be able to work, pay down his hospital bill, be self sufficient again. While Buster stands strong by his side let's stand by him too and help to give Bill his life back. If he ever made you smile, ever made a difference in your life. He is looking for a miracle.
