Water Filters for Communities in PR

After seeing the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in my island, Puerto Rico, I knew I wanted to help in some way. Many efforts have been focused on bringing food and medical aid but I was surprised by the increase of diseases during this time because of people being exposed to unsanitary waters like those of rivers. Many of these waters that used to be the main source of clean water to communities have been affected by the recent events, which have led to people drinking water from unsanitary sources and exposing themselves to grave diseases. 

I want to raise enough money to buy at least 100 water filters created by Waves for Water to donate them to impoverished communities that still don't have access to clean water. Each filter has a price tag of $50 (https://store.wavesforwater.org/products/mvp-filter). One filtration system could provide clean water for a small village for pennies a day, as stated in the Waves for Water webpage. And I have personally seen it work. 

The filter is very easy to install. "Families are able to construct and adapt their filter in literally minutes to locally found containers. The kit includes everything you need to attach the filter to any plastic bucket or container."



With these filters, we can help communities be healthy on these devastating times. 

I will be buying the filters with the funds collected with the fundraiser and will personally bring them to all the communities that need it the most. An update of the communities will be sent in the next days. I will also buy a plastic container for each filter so that the families won't have to worry about finding a container to install their filters.
