Reunite 5 children from Somalia with Mother

Donation protected
Dear friends, friends of friends and those yet to become friends!

We write to you today as we are still continuing to fight together with our Somali mother (to protect her identity we call her here Fadhouma) from our long-standing Give Something Back to Berlin community here in Berlin, to reunite with her 5 children!

They range in ages from 6 to 15. They were separated from their mother 5 years ago, when Fadhouma took upon herself a perilous journey to Europe to escape systemic and domestic violence due to topics such as female genital mutilation, civil war and inequality. Life was and is still not safe in Somalia for families so Fadhouma has been seeking a safer place to bring her children for their survival! Back then she had no idea that it would be 5 very difficult long years before she could start to try to reunite with her children.

Thankfully we have now finally started this process together with our organisation Give Something Back to Berlin e.V. and we are delighted to say that we successfully completed step 1 and the children arrived safely with their grandmother in Kenya a few weeks ago!

We kindly ask if you are able to support us with raising funds and making a donation for a meal or a couple of weeks rent or a doctor´s visit as well as school fees for the children and their grandmother whilst they wait.

Fadhouma was finally able to make the trip to Kenya to visit them recently. An emotional and beautiful reunion after 5 long years. During this visit to see her children in Nairobi, she found them a small apartment to live in, took them to doctors as life in Somalia had taken its toll on them and most importantly start the legal process together with the International Organisation for Migration - IOM and the German Embassy to obtain the documentation needed for them to come to Germany. In addition we are working closely with a reputable lawyer here in Berlin.

So what do we need your help with? The appointment at the German Embassy for the children´s visa appointment could come next week, it could however be in many many months as the Embassy cannot allocation any appointments in advance. This means we need to support the children financially for housing, medicine, legal costs, schooling and food whilst they are patiently waiting with their grandmother in Nairobi. Fadhouma has returned to Germany to not lose the refugee status granted before, to continue working with the layer and is seeking ways to find extra work and money however has recently also suffered many serious health issues. Later on we will then need to pay for flights, more legal costs and the high cost of starting a new life finally reunited with their mother.

In this new decade we kindly ask whether you would consider making a donation for these children!

Any amount helps! Please forward to any other kind humans who you feel would support our efforts.

Fadhouma would like to thank you all so so much, she is very moved and touched by the support so far and invites you to enjoy some Somali tea with her or offers her African inspired paintings that she creates in our therapeutic art project here in Berlin.

With love to you and yours, with solidarity and our heartfelt sincere thanks!

Fadhouma, Hania, Lucy, Tosia and the children!
