Volunteering in Honduras for Global Brigades

Donation protected
Global Brigades is an international, non-profit organisation that is run by students. Its goal is to change the health and education inequality in the world and it uses student volunteers, like myself to help achieve this.

Since starting  my  Law degree at the University of Exeter, I have been fortunate enough to gain a place, on the late June/early July 2019 trip to Honduras with Global Brigades. This trip, will aim  to help them on their mission to achieve holistic  development for the local communities, whom they have been working with since 2004. In particular, we will be organising legal aid clinics for the local population, especially women, many of whom are unaware of the rights they are entitled to and suffer deep inequality and domestic abuse. We will work with Women's Rights charities, to provide key advice and support that would otherwise not be available to them.

Whilst in Honduras, we will also visit and help to promote rights in rural communities, attend local schools as part of an information and cultural exchange, visit local governments to discuss rights and help run workshops on family law issues that affect the communities.

This  opportunity is an incredible way for myself and fellow volunteers,  to make a difference to those that are fighting for economic and social  growth. Hurdles like disparity still continue, despite the amazing work that has already been undertaken to improve health.  Women are sadly still perceived to be less valuable than men and are most vulnerable to abuse from within their own homes. Providing advice to women on these matters could prove to be invaluable to their lives.

The journey to Honduras will cost £690 plus flights and this will all have to be fundraised by May 31st 2019. I would be extremely grateful for any donation, no matter how small,  that can allow me to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity, to truly make a difference to the lives of many men, women and children living in Honduras. Those who may not have the opportunity to speak out, or receive quality education without the fantastic work of Global Brigades and their volunteers.

Thank you all so much for reading and thank you for your support.
