Amazing China | Volunteering
Through Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) I have discovered a wonderful opportunity that is bound to change my life! GLA is an international education organization. Its mission is to operate programs around the world, which offer educational, service and leadership opportunities for young people in order to foster leadership development and global citizenship.
While volunteering in China I will be based in Shaxi village. During my stay there, I will be communicating with the locals to work on temple restoration projects. In the nearby Bai village I will be teaching some English to young kids who only speak the Bai dialect. From there, we will move on to learn about farming in China while helping local farmers remove weeds from their crops.
I am excited to meet the international staff and students, volunteer with local communities, and explore the history and culture of China while developing my leadership potential.
Taiwan | Language Immersion
This is my fourth year studying Mandarin. I really enjoy learning a language that is completely different to Spanish, my first language, and English! Learning new characters and their meanings is especially challenging and fun!
In the course of my life I hope to become a fluent Mandarin speaker.
Traveling to Taiwan to attend intensive Mandarin courses will boost my Mandarin skills, while bringing me closer to my goal.
During my time in Taiwan I hope to travel to cultural attractions by riding the high speed railways which connect the country. Traveling alone will help me gain independence and give me the opportunity to use my Mandarin.
While learning a language in a classroom setting is an important step in the learning process, only through real-life application can I truly expand my knowledge.
How will these funds be used?
The funds raised will be used to cover the GLA volunteering program cost in China and airfare tickets from the US to Asia and back. In Taiwan, the funds will cover language classes, lodging, meals, and transportation including visa costs for both countries.
Unfortunately I cannot afford to go on this 6 week trip without your help!
