Volunteer Nurse in Cambodia

Meet Tim Seel Tim is a fully qualified, NHS trained nurse with nearly 30 years of experience. After a couple of life challenging months Tim decided to leave his comfort zone and also more importantly his salary behind to become an unpaid volunteer. He now runs M’Pai Bay Community Health Centre on the remote island of Koh Rong Sanloem in Cambodia. Currently he is the sole trained medical professional on the island with the nearest hospital being 33km/20.5 miles away and only reachable by ferry. M’Pai Bay Community Health Centre provides first aid and basic medical care free of charge to the local community and visitors/tourists that had no previous access to healthcare without a 20 mile journey. The Health Center itself was funded by a charity appeal  and is supported by the local chief who provides the land for free, with additional support from local businesses who help with labour to keep costs down. The health centre is not for profit and runs completely on charitable donations. Tim left the UK with a small amount of savings, a huge heart and 30 years of experience in the nursing profession that he could use to help people. He doesn’t just help people in his role at the medical center, by his own choice he is pretty much on call 24/7 to provide emergency help. He has become part of their community and has even been known to help the vets visiting from the mainland to treat animals (not in his sterile patient room don't worry!). Tim loves what he does in the community and currently relies on savings and the generosity of local peope and businesses providing food and basics but he still has living costs to maintain. As his friends and family know, the postal system in M’Pai Bay is quite non-existent. This means you can’t send him a birthday card or a pick me up in the post, there were no Christmas cards or small gifts to send. If you met up would you buy him a coffee or even pay for his meal knowing that he doesn’t earn a wage for what he does? Of course you would, which is why we've set up this page for him! If you can spare the cost of a coffee, meal or even would like to send him the money you'd spend on a gift then it will all help go towards keeping him in his role and supporting the work he does within the community just that little bit longer. ''Hi, I am currently volunteering as a nurse on a small island off the coast of Cambodia. We provide free healthcare to the local people who have no other facility available. I have great support from the local business community, but do incur living costs. I am raising funds to try and cover some of these. Thank you.'' - Tim "Tim is the only nurse out here in M'Pai Bei Village. He has 30years experience and left his life in England to come and volunteer at the medical centre for most of the year, he's been providing the local Khmer, Westerners and tourists with medical care - he does 24/7 on call medical help and is generally a f*****g great asset to this community. I would be very greatfull of any donations to ensure he can stay out here for as long as possible ♥️♥️♥️" - EM a resident of M'Pai Bay. "Tim is an absolute legend for our community, here on M'Pai Bay. Help him to help us, even more so ❤" - SF-C a resident of M'Pai Bay "Tim is making a difference in a community that would otherwise struggle to get this level of care. Tim has many years nursing experience to provide the best care for the people in this village community. Sharing is caring, if you would be kind enough to donate even £1 it will help to keep Tim at the community. Please share to give the village a chance to keep Tim and his expertise a little longer." - LL an old school friend of Tim
