Interactive LGBT+ History

Support Voices and Visibility

You can enable the creation of an online digital resource to uncover hidden histories and strengthen the voices and visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender + people in UK history.

Voices and Visibility is a project to develop LGBT+ history resources. In 2015 the project produced a wallchart celebrating LGBT+ lives and the contribution they have made to life, learning, equal rights and society in the UK. This campaign is raising funds to develop a digital interactive version of the wallchart.

The response to the wallchart has been overwhelmingly positive. It is available for free and is still in demand. There has been great interest and support for a digital version.

You can inspire a new generation of activists and build alliances to ensure the significant gains of the last 50 years are not lost by supporting the development of an interactive history resource.

Using the interactive version you will be able to explore the biographies, community organisations, campaigns and legal milestones you can see on the wallchart. Your support will enable us to show how LGBT+ history has been shaped in Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. This is not only to remember and honour these histories but also inspire a new generation of activists and build alliances. Even recent LGBT+ histories are often unknown to younger people. It is they who will continue the fight for equality and against prejudice and discrimination.

Donate today and you will make it possible to reach national and international audiences with this free and open digital resource.

Your donation will enable the digital interactive resource to be developed. All the information will be developed by a team of dedicated volunteers. All the information will be accessible for those with a sensory impairment. For those developing their reading skills there will be short summaries, written in plain English. The resource will be linked to from the LGBT+ History Month website where the current wallchart is available to download. It will be free and open to all.

The £6500 will pay for the technical development. A ‘microsite’ will be developed for use with desktop, mobile and tablet. The content of the current wallchart will be adapted and all additional information included. Audio files will be used alongside text and images.  The ‘micro-site’ will easily accommodate future plans for example a Welsh language version of the chart in a later phase of development.

For every donation made by someone via gofundme it will be matched by funds from private supporters of LGBT+HM therefore your donation will be doubled.

Supporters who supply their name will be thanked on a special acknowledgment page next to the resource. Organisations that support us with £50 or more can choose for their logo to be included.

On the download page you will also find more information about the project including credits for those who have supported and provided valued resources to date.

Voices and Visibility is managed by Seth Atkin and supported by a group of trade unions and the UK LGBT+ charity, Schools OUT UK. Paul Hambley is a volunteer worker organising the gofundme campaign. Sue Sanders, Chair of Schools OUT UK/ LGBT+ History Month will receive the funds on behalf of the Voices and Visibility project.
Any money raised in addition to the target will be donated to Schools OUT UK and can be used towards future development of the resource.
