Help for Dacia!

This Go Fund Me is for the loving family of Dacia Del Prado/Taylor. Earlier this year Dacia was diagnosed with the BRCA2 mutation and therefore had a 90% increased risk of contracting breast cancer. Due to other existing health conditions, she was told, in her case, it was more likely a case of when she would be diagnosed with breast cancer not if she would be diagnosed.

On August 24th she had a preventative double mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction. This was a 10 hour surgery. What started as a routine surgery with highly respected surgeons has turned into a total nightmare. At her worst it would not be exaggerating to say she was blue in color and weakened to the point of fainting while providing everyday self care to herself. She has had MANY complications throughout her healing journey. Here are just some examples of what she has experienced.

-On September 11th she was hospitalized with a serious infection due to an open wound at an incision site.

-Starting 3 weeks after the surgery she has attended weekly wound care appointments for the large wound that has been open since the beginning of September.

-As a result of the open wound, she has suffered multiple infections.

-She has had her initial wound site cauterized and a debridement to stop abnormal amounts of bleeding and clean out the damaged tissue of the wound.

-She has had a wound vac and/or drains for 8 weeks in total.

-She was diagnosed with several pulmonary embolisms in the lungs, and has had to be on Eloquis for the last 3 months with constant monitoring.

-She had lost so much blood she was a hair shy of needing an immediate blood transfusion. The doctors ruled against the transfusion which has instead caused her to be dangerously anemic and require iron transfusions.

Throughout this entire journey she has been unable to work. She had financially planned to miss 6 weeks of work as was recommended by her surgeons. After 3 1/2 months, it was determined she needed another surgery to clean out the infection and cut out the wound to hopefully allow it to close. On December 12th she received the second surgery. The doctors anticipate this surgery will have a 2 week recovery period barring any unforeseen complications. This will put Dacia at 4 months of work missed, total.

The lack of funds has caused significant hardships on her family including but not limited to being unable to pay rent, utilities and copays for required appointments. This would be trying for any family to experience but is exceptionally difficult during the holiday season.

In addition to all her medical complications Dacia is charged with caring for her elderly father who previously suffered a stroke and was recently diagnosed with Cerebellar Syndrome.

It would be very remiss of me not to say that Dacia is one of the nicest individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting. She would provide anything for anyone. She is a loving mother of 2 wonderful children, a dependable, hardworking coworker and a magnificent human with a warming smile. If you can spare any funds during your holiday season this wonderful family would be so appreciative to you. Any money collected would go towards said rent, utilities, food and other everyday living expenses.
