video camera replacement

On my most recent backpacking trek, I was filming a fishing scene and my video camera, some how popped off the tri pod and into the river. Gabriel and I were right there and although I instantly pulled it out, dried it, it is dead. I tried the rice thing but no luck. Canon tells me, its a paper weight now, but worth 10% off a new one, if I send it in with an order. They scrap it out for parts. I am barely able to pay the bills I have, much less take on new ones! I hate to be the guy who asks for help but many of you suggested this set up. So, here it is. The G40 is discontinued and replaced by the G50. It is about $1,100 and with the 10% off back up to about $1,200 including a 2 year optional warranty. I already have the mic, light and 3 extended life batteries that will fit the new model perfectly, (saving me) roughly $500, from having to get new. I Hope this does not turn people off my channel, as I have worked hard to share many videos and would like to continue. A new camera is what I need to do so. Thanks.
