Pingree Farms could really use your help

Every year about this time, volunteers from all over Michigan converge in central Detroit dressed in their "farming best."

Their mission? To put 20,000 plants in the ground. These seedlings grow throughout the year and are the foundation for Pingree Farms, Detroit's largest urban farm.

Pingree Farms was founded to connect the community with agriculture. In a typical year, Pingree is bustling with activity: 4-H students, community events, and of course their famous Goat Yoga. Pingree’s gardens are always open for anyone in the community to harvest food for their own needs.

Would you like us to help plant this year? Volunteer for a slot!

This year Pingree has a new mission: a Victory Garden

During this unprecedented time, Pingree has decided to donate all food grown to the community. The gardens will still be open for anyone who needs to come pick a few tomatoes or zucchini for their family – but this year all 15 acres of gardens will be dedicated to the Pingree Victory Garden.

Reminiscent of historic times of need, the Victory Garden will remind us all how communities can come together to provide fresh food for each other. The entire 2020 harvest will be donated to food banks, non-profits and others delivering fresh food to Detroiters in need. And you can help!

A Goat Problem

Maybe you’ve heard of Pingree’s famous Goat Yoga classes? Every year, thousands of people come to Pingree to participate in Goat Yoga – and it’s by far their biggest fundraiser.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, Goat Yoga has been cancelled this spring. Without this source of income – literally funding the farm and all it’s programs, including 4-H – Pingree is facing a catastrophic loss of operating funds.

Pingree Farms Foundation is a registered nonprofit entity and relies on fundraising . All funds received through this Go Fund Me campaign will be used to directly support the farm and Victory Garden. Money raised will cover the cost of seedlings, all material and staff needed to tend the garden, and distribution of food to the community upon harvest.

If we're lucky enough to reach our target - additional funds will aim to preserve the future of the farm: expansion of gardens and orchards, as well as additional equipment to improve yields and increase preservation capacity.

Can you chip in?

Help Pingree Farms, support the Victory Garden, and help to feed Detroiters in need during this time.

Please donate what you can to keep Pingree growing this season.

We understand that not everyone is in a position to donate. If you'd still like to support, could you help us by spreading the word?
