Paula's Recovery Fund

Paula and Mossie are valued friends and neighbours to everyone in their local community. They are the hardworking parents of three young children aged 8, 5 and 2.  Before she fell ill, Paula's whole life revolved around her family. She worked as a well loved primary school teacher in Athy, Co. Kildare. 

In October 2018, Paula became suddenly and critically  ill with a serious neurological illness. Paula was in hospital, away from her husband and children, for nine months, in Tallaght Hospital initially, followed by treatment in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in
Dun Laoghaire. Paula now needs significant support if she is to live safely at home. 

This illness has been completely life changing for Paula, Mossie and their three young children. Her children's world has been turned upside down. Sadly, Paula's illness has had a huge impact on her parenting role and her children have had to adjust both to her absence from the family home and to her new condition. While her family hope that Paula's condition may improve in the future, she currently needs further specialist support and  constant supervision to ensure she is safe and cared for. 

Paula and Mossie have never hesitated to support their local GAA club St Laurence's fundraising events and other community charity events in the past and they have provided invaluable support to their own friends and neighbours during hard times.  We hope to repay their kindness and are fundraising now to allow Paula access specialist therapies to assist in her recovery and provide the home care necessary for her to live at home with her family. It is also hoped that these funds will provide specialist support for Paula's young children, to help them adjust to Paula's condition.
