Veterinary Expenses Fundraiser for Smokey

On April 10th our sweet wolfdog Smokey was admitted to a critical care unit after an abrupt decline in health from an unknown cause. Extensive testing revealed that he was experiencing liver failure due to a rare side effect of an antibiotic he had been prescribed. After a very dire original prognosis and a week spent fighting for his life, his blood levels are improving and he has taken a turn for the better, though he is battling with health complications due to this shock to his system. Last night he was finally able to spend a night at home as a test run and get some much needed rest with mom and dad.
The testing revealed he has no other underlying conditions, and hopefully once he gets his liver in better working condition he’ll be back to his sweet, loving self.
The worst seems to be behind us, but it’s a long road to recovery and the extensive treatment he needed for organ failure and the resulting sepsis has left a sizable medical bill.
As these severe health issues were caused by the side effects of a prescribed antibiotic and not any preexisting condition we never wanted finances to be the reason that Smokey couldn’t pull through, and as he has the fight in him and there is hope, we want to to do everything we can to ensure he recovers from this.
Funds raised will go towards helping his parents John & Allison offset the already accrued veterinary care costs.

***UPDATE 4/19: Smokey is currently able to spend a night at home and is stabilizing on all fronts except for one. His eyes and tear ducts have suffered significant damage and will require him going back into surgery in the morning. Our fundraising goal is being updated to reflect this development. We will do our best to keep everyone posted on Smokey’s progress. We greatly appreciate every single contribution and every ounce of love & support that we have received. Thank you all so, so much.
