Summertime and the living is easy. . . for some more than others. In Vershire as elsewhere, the economic and social-emotional fallout from the pandemic continues to be wildly uneven. Now that restrictions are lifting, VerShare is committed to helping every child have a great summer, regardless of their family circumstances. Please help support VerShare's free summer camp as well as "camperships" to other camps and season passes to Treasure Island.
The VerShare Community Camp will be back this summer and, as always, offered free-of-charge! It runs on the principle that everyone has something to contribute and that together we can create a magical week for the children in our community. Cash donations help cover fixed costs and supplement the generous contributions of time, food, and supplies that come from camp families and other community members.
Camperships. When the VerShare Community Camp started in 1999, there were very few other camps in the area. Now there are so many, especially this summer! Using COVID recovery funds, the Rivendell school district is offering five weeks of summer camp for free. However, demand was so high, they have 30 children on the waiting list. VerShare is working with other community organizations to fund camperships, helping waitlisted children realize their dreams of attending another camp.
Treasure Island Season Passes: Not everyone has a pond or a swimming pool in their backyard, and Treasure Island is truly a community treasure—a sandy beach on Lake Fairlee, a safe place to swim, a playground and picnic shelters, and an opportunity to play and visit with others. VerShare wishes to purchase season passes for several local families who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
Our goal is to raise an additional $2,375 in the next two weeks to help every kid have a great summer!
