Help Johnathan Siery beat Acute Leukemia
Donación protegida
To our friends, family, and supporters.
We are reaching out for your help and to share the story of Johnathan (JT) Siery our beloved friend and older brother. On October 27th, 2022 JT was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (ALM). By the time it was caught his blood was 60% cancerous blasts and he was rushed into treatment at The Ottawa Hospital in Ontario Canada where doctors only gave him a 20% chance of beating cancer.
The doctors determined that an Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant was the best shot at recovery. Luckily his little sister was a donor match and donated her stem cells on February 9th, 2023. JT has since gotten the Stem Cell Transplant on February 23rd. Through an extremely intensive course of chemotherapies, immune suppressants, and other treatments he has been making progress in recovery. Although he is making progress medically, he has started to fall behind financially because he is not able to work. The doctors advise that it will take at least a year from the transplant before he is able to return to work. Now not only does JT have to deal with the physical and emotional toll of his diagnosis but he also is struggling with the financial burdens of everyday life.
ABOUT
JT is 30 years old, single and lives alone with his cat (Buddy) and a dog (Willow) in Deep River. He has always been a strong independent guy who is absolutely selfless and is always helping others. He is a volunteer firefighter with the Laurentian Hills fire department. He also volunteers at the local rock-climbing club as an instructor and club executive. Right before his diagnosis JT had just completed additional firefighter training and was just starting to chase his dream of becoming a full-time firefighter when those dreams were placed on hold. JT’s family unfortunately lives very far from where his treatment is being done with his younger sister in Toronto and his parents and younger brother in British Colombia. As well, the majority of his friends live about two hours away. It’s hard seeing him go through this and not being able to do more to help.
FUNDS
This is why we are turning to you, our friends, family and supporters for help. Funds will be used to help cover his day-to-day expenses and any other expenses that may arise during this difficult time. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated even the smallest amount can make a difference. Any additional funds will be donated to the hematology team at the Ottawa Hospital to help get equipment and support the research that allows the team to provide such incredible care to patients like him every day of the year.
If you are unable to donate, please consider learning more about stem cell donation, raising awareness, and think about signing up for a great cause.
More about JT!
As a testament to John always putting others first, while under the care of the Hematology team at the Ottawa Hospital, John recognized the need for more blood, plasma, stem cell, and bone marrow donations, so he completed a marathon by walking around the hematology unit, 453 laps totaling 42.2km to raise awareness of the national shortage of blood and marrow donations. He also wanted to raise awareness of the extraordinary hematology team and the cutting-edge treatments and care that they provide.
