JUSTICE FOR VANESSA GUILLEN: Our Dove Springs community stands united in demanding justice for Vanessa Guillen. Vanessa enlisted in the army to defend our country, and today on Independence Day, we come together to defend her name and call for justice immediately.
Vanessa Guillen, a 20-year-old private first class in the U.S. Army disappeared two months ago from Fort Hood in Killeen. The news recently reported that she was beaten to death with a hammer and dismembered before being buried in concrete.
I am Monica Maldonado from Austin, Texas and I am launching a GoFundMe to help fund the creation of a painted mural in Dove Springs. Dove Springs artist Fili Mendieta will paint this memorial mural at a site in Dove Springs (William Cannon/Pleasant Valley). Fili Mendieta is the artist who created the iconic Selena mural on Cesar Chavez. He will be assisted by Arturo Silva a native of Oaxaca Mexico. We are also working on a second mural designed and painted by a Woman Latina collective.
GIVE TODAY: Please help contribute to pay for art supplies for the mural. The initial portion of the donations will be used to paint the mural, we will split the remaining proceeds with Vanessa Guillen’s family giving fund and the KDH Giving Fund. The donation will be sent directly to Mayra Guillen the organizer of The Vanessa Giving Go Fund Me. A portion of the procedes will also be donated directly https://www.kdhgivingfund.com/ a local non profit initiative to help provide food security and economic relief to our immigrant communities in Central Texas.
As a predominately Latin community, Dove Springs joins in solidarity with communities across the nation to call for justice to be served. Give what you can. Thanks so much!
