Food of Love Fundraiser 爱心美食捐款活动
Mission Update:
Our campaign started out with a single mission to deliver 100 hot meals to a local area food pantry. As our support grew, we have now expanded our project goal to cover all local area food pantries. We would love your continued support to help us achieve this great mission. Thank you!
Initial Mission:
In this time of crisis, many in the local community are still out of work and continue to struggle to make ends meet. We, the Iowa City Area Chinese Association, will continue our relief and charitable efforts to support those most vulnerable in our community. We have answered the calling from UCA to sponsor the "Food of Love" Day charity initiative.
United Chinese Americans (UCA), a leading civic organization and national coalition, is working with participating Chinese American partner organizations and other entities to coordinate an effort by Chinese communities in all 50 states and more than 100 cities to donate food to needy people and institutions hit hard by the new coronavirus. May 9th has been declared the "Food of Love" Day.
May 9 is a significant date in the annals of history of Chinese Americans. It marks the completion 151 years ago of the Transcontinental Railroad, which early Chinese labors and immigrants helped construct. May is also designated as Asian Pacific American Islander Heritage Month, to highlight the contributions of APIA communities to this country.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover one hundred hot meals to be delivered to a local food pantry on May 9th. We urge you to consider making a donation of $10 dollars.
This time we'd also like to call upon the youths in our community to assist in this initiative. Charitable giving should not be a one time doing but rather a life-long habit. Let's help our next generation learn that they too can make an impact by showing their compassion and sharing their resources to people in need.
Together we can combat and defeat this unprecedented threat to our common welfare.
华人社区各位，自Covid-19 肆虐美国以来，全美华人展现了前所未有的爱心与责任感，为救灾工作做出了不可磨灭的贡献。全美华人联合会UCA和全国各州主要华人团体和商家将一同在五月九号推动全美五十个州和一百个城市的华人共同举办“全美华人爱心食物日”（Chinese American Food of Love Day), 把各地华人关爱家园的义举推向高潮。
选择5月9号这天是因为：五月是亚太裔传统月；五月九号是华工建成美洲大铁路的那一天，象征意义极高。 爱城许多人都为抗击新冠疫情捐款捐物，为抗击疫情尽了自己的力量。这次我们邀请华人社区的青少年来一起做这次公益活动。愿意参加这项全国性华人关心社区、关注弱势群体，共同创造历史的活动的青少年和社区成员请捐款给爱城华人协会Covid 19 Emergency Respond Fund。 建议每位捐款$10。
华人协会将用这个基金为本地的一家食品银行订购5月9日的100份午餐，为一些还在为温饱问题挣扎的弱势群体送去温暖和关爱。我们希望通过邀请青少年一起参加这个活动，带动青少年做公益，培养青少年的社会责任感。
