Guess what! My body's messed up! This means I need two surgeries in two months:
- A surgical biopsy on February 9
- A hysterectomy on March 2
The biopsy is to take various samples and see if they can find new and thrilling diagnoses to add to the ones I've already got. I'll need a week off work for that one, and four weeks for the hysterectomy. That's five weeks of work with no pay, although the billionaires tell me I should be grateful that I get to keep my job. (Thanks, FMLA!)
While I'm lucky enough that insurance should ("should" is doing a lot of work here) cover my medical bills, I'll need to take about five weeks of unpaid time off.
I don't have the savings to cover this. We live in a dystopia! Who has savings any more? I'm also the main breadwinner for my family right now, so financially this is very scary.
I know I'm lucky in lots of ways at a time when people are being sent to gulags, so I completely understand if you'd rather donate to local organizing efforts to protect friends and neighbors. I'm just really sick and scared of how much money this will all end up costing. Each week off work I lose about $1700. My first goal is just to replace that so I can make rent at the end of March.
