civil right violations-unjust civil commitment law

James Hydrick condemned to life in a mental hospital.  It is true. Shocking as it is, James Hydrick has been committed to a hospital for 23 years on an indefinite commitment. His original commitment was 2 years. Why after 23 years is James still being civilly committed to a hospital?  For this simple reason, a new civil commitment law was passed allowing a state court to keep James indefinitely. This can happen to you or me. Before we also fall victim, we need money for attorneys to overturn this unfair law. Currently, James Hydrick is civilly committed to a state hospital in California. The state is holding him in “preventative detention” — Essentially, he is locked up on a hunch that one day in the future, he “might” commit a crime. Incarcerated for 23 years in state hospitals, James deserves a chance to live out his life in freedom. Detaining a person indefinitely for a crime that they have not committed is unconstitutional, unethical, and a violation of human rights.   The United States is a leader of the free world, and we should continue to evolve ethically so that we can truly represent the word freedom. We have come so far; however, this law is holding us back. Think about all of the atrocities we no longer commit as a society; we used to publicly decapitate, mutilate, and hang individuals in front of their friends and family. Now, we are striving to create a world where we truly believe in “the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.”  Still, even if we have come this far, we still have a long way to go; arbitrarily giving out the indeterminate sentence to James on the basis of thinking he might commit a crime is almost the same as when we used to tie women up and throw them in the river to find out if they were witches or not. For this simple reason, the new civil commitment law should shock the ever-evolving conscience that marks today’s society, because it is primitive and immoral. I am not only trying to bring awareness to the issue of the maltreatment of people civilly committed to state hospitals, but I am also trying to change our society for the better.  James’s initial commitment was 2 years — 23 years ago. Now his sentence is indeterminate. It took 21 years to finally have a hearing. James’s whole story has never been heard because he’s never been given a chance to tell it. With that said, there is a ton of misinformation online and elsewhere about James and his case. A biography will soon be forthcoming from Steve ‘Bo’ Keeley.  Donate $500. or more, you will receive a biography book autographed by James Hydrick. Please feel free to visit James’s blog at https://jameshydrick.blogspot.com. He has no access to the internet; the blog is run by a family friend who posts on James’s behalf. This GoFundMe campaign has been started to raise funds for attorneys to help James have a chance at a future outside a hospital and to stop human rights violations for others who have become victims of our justice system.  Donate $100.  or more and receive an autographed photo book of James Hydrick. Donate $50. or more and receive an autographed photo of  James Hydrick. “Please donate to show the rest of the world that we have evolved to a higher standard of decency.” By donating, we will change a little piece of the world. We will also take a big bite out of the mistreatment of human beings! Thank you for your time, and go donate today!
