Union Beach Police Department K9

Donation protected
The Union Beach Police Dept is pleased to announce a new beginning to our K9 program.  Patrolman Sean Smith has been selected as our K9 handler to reinvigorate our program.

While the program has been frozen for several years, multiple factors have led us back to continue our own program.  Any opportunity to better serve our residents is hard to say no to.  With the help of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office we will be able to get Ptl. Smith into his long and rigorous training this September that will make this a dual purpose dog certified in Narcotics detection and patrol.  This means the dog will alert it’s handler to the presence of multiple narcotics, along with being trained in tracking, and apprehension of criminals, large and small area searches, handler protection, as well as participating in informational programs to help build and maintain community relations.

With the opioid crisis the way it is, and people overdosing at an overly alarming rate, we want to utilize any advantage we can to combat drugs in our community, along with assisting and/or supplementing surrounding communities when the need arises.

The selection and screening process for the dog itself, coupled with mounting costs for the vehicle, and equipment leads us to asking for your help.  Whichever dog is selected will live with Ptl. Smith in his home, and will obviously create changes to his home and working environment.  Any pet/working dog owner understands that this is a great responsibility.

If you are able to support our program by way of donations, no amount is too small to help us achieve the maximum potential of what we dream this program can accomplish.  Every donation is tax deductible, and will help alleviate some of the up front and long term costs of sustaining this program for hopefully many years.

Donations can be made via our GoFund me page, and if you wish to remain anonymous or make private donations, checks can made payable to Union Beach PBA Local 291 (in the memo put Canine Unit ) and can be dropped off at or mailed to our headquarters located at :
