Puerto Rico-Hurricane Maria Support

Donation protected
As many of you might know, the island of Puerto Rico was devastatingly hit by hurricane Maria.  It has been the worst natural disaster to hit the island in over 80 years.
Much of Puerto Rico has been destroyed. Widespread flooding and wind damage has impacted many areas of the island. Infrastructure has also taken a huge blow. For the 3.5 million people on Puerto Rico this means months without power. This is important because an inability to receive electric power, means an inability to provide life sustaining water.  I would like to help provide water purification equipment, water collection equipment, and solar energy generators to assist in the long road to recovery. Additionally, many people have lost their ability to provide for their families. I would like to use the donations to help provide for such needs as medications, food, and clothing. The prevention of diseases will also be of paramount importance.  According to the CDC, many preventable diseases characteristically follow natural disaster of this magnitude. The risk is higher for communicable diseases related to water, contact diseases at crowded locations (like shelters) and vector born diseases (like those carried by mosquitoes).  Hygienic supplies and insect repellants will also be needed.
Many of us, like myself, have personal ties Puerto Rico. I was born there and my family lives there. Like many of us from the island, I have not been able to establish contact. Not much is known.
However, what is clear is that Puerto Rico needs our help. I am asking for financial donations to be 100% used to purchase and to distribute necessary support to shelters, highly affected and/or cut-off communities, and for anyone in need throughout the island. I would like to focus on the needs of children, elderly, and otherwise helpless people. I will be funding my own travel and living expenses. I would also like to welcome volunteers who can fund their own travel/living expenses to join me in an effort to distribute and to help support Puerto Rico through this time of great need and uncertainty.
I am Felix Torresnieves originally from Puerto Rico. I now live in Santa Fe , NM. I am raising funds for Puerto Rican families in Puerto Rico. My relationship to this community is family and friends. I would use funds on food, water and water purification, insect repellant, and on supplies for babies. My withdrawl plan is to send goods to Gabriel Torres (my brother) via amazon and the USPS. Gabriel will distribute the goods to families and individuals affected by Maria.

I invite you to donate or to share this information with anyone who may wish to help.

Thank you,

Felix Torresnieves
