This is me, Part 3:
To sum up, I am a single mom of two very active boys, who strives to keep up with them. I am a below the knee bilateral amputee. I had my first amputation just before I turned one. I have lerned to walk and adapt in this special body that I was created in. I can do just about anything anyone else can do, with a few creative modifications. Some days my legs are strong and feel like can conquer the world. Other days, it is difficult to just put on my prosthetics.
As some of you may know, I am in the process of getting fitted for new prosthetics. The lifespan of a prosthetic is generally two years. I have had mine over three years. After having two kids my body has obviously changed and my prosthetics no longer fit properly. Ill fitting prosthetics can cause sores and chafing which creates everyday tasks to be a great challenge.
The greatest challenge here is insurance. Insurance, as we all know, can be a nightmare. I am blessed to have decent income to support my family and an employer with medical insurance.
However, my policy has a high deductible plan. Meaning, insurance will pay for 100% of the cost for my new prosthetics, (which cost close to $43,000) only after I have paid my high deductible of $5000.
Never in a thousand years did I ever imagine having to ask for financial help like this. As a kid I dreamed of fundraising and motivational speaking for others, but never for myself. Yet, here I am. I appreciate any assistance, whether a hug, high five, a motivational quote, or a donation.
