Shae's fight against brain cancer

Don protégé
My name is Megan and I had a sister 'Shae' who was fighting an unbeatable battle against grade 4 Glioma brain cancer.

Shae's battle begun on the 4th of October 2014 (her son's birthday) when she suffered from a very severe seizure that stopped her breathing. Thankfully Shae was in a public place when this happened with her husband and she was able to be assisted to breath again and rushed to hospital.

A scan was done on Shae's brain that night and Shae and her family were informed 'something is there'. A MRI followed and the news was broken that Shae had a growth on her brain, a tumour.

A few days later Shae was taken into surgery with everyone that loves her believing it won't be anything too serious and she was going to be ok. The surgeon broke the news days later to Shae that she had a grade 3 Glioma incurable brain cancer. Shae and everyone that loves her were left absolutely devastated.

Shae went through a course of radiation and was lucky to not experience any damage from surgery or radiation. Shae in September 2015 married the love of her life Byron and the occasion was shared with their son's Will, aged now 14 and Dylan aged 4. Shae was feeling happy and healthy on the happiest day of her life.

Tragically just 2 weeks later Shae whilst on her honeymoon started to experience loss of speech, loss of movement on the right side of her mouth and loss of movement in her right arm. Shae had waited 38 years for her honeymoon and nothing was going to rob her of the experience. Shae fought through to finish her honeymoon but was admitted to hospital the day after her return home.

More scans were done and it was learnt Shae had another tumour present, just 3 months prior her scan was all clear. Shae went in for her second surgery and test's revealed the worse possible news, it was now grade 4, the most aggressive type.

After surgery Shae started to lose some movement in her right leg, her arm has become worse and her speech was incredibly impaired.

Shae sadly passed away on the 23rd of July 2016 after a 21 month battle. This gofundme fund has remained open and I (Shae's sister) would love to keep raising funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation (a local Brain cancer charity) as they were a great support to Shae and raise enourmous amounts of funds to help cure brain cancer and provide support staff inside of Newcastle's local hosptial The Calvary Mater Hospital.

All proceeds will be donated to MHF in Shae's honour. Over $5,000 has already been dontated to MHF in honour of Shae. Alternatively funds can be donated directly to MHF https://secure.hmri.org.au/mark-hughes-foundation Please state in the comments when donating direct to MHF 'In Honour of Shae Wood' as MHF are very aware who Shae and her family is.

Thank you xx
