The Ujamaa Community Fridge was created by youth leaders and community members to fight against the broken food system in NYC.  And we serve as a model of what community unity looks like in times of social economic depression and in a global pandemics.

The Ujamaa Community Fridge is part of a collective effort rooted firmly in mutual aid. Working together with volunteers and other community fridges, our goal is to provide quality foods directly to the community.

The Ujamaa Community Fridge is incredibly grateful for individual donations of groceries, but the need continues to grow. Therefore, we need your help to build sustainable partnerships with farmers markets, community gardens and vendors in our efforts to rescue foods. These resources will help supply the Ujamaa Community Fridge with fresh, locally-sourced produce.

Funds will go toward:

- Purchasing fresh produce from farmer’s markets and local vendors
- Transportation of both donated and rescued foods
- Building a winterized shed for the Fridge
