St. Rose Strong

My name is leyla Hobbs. I'm a parent of a kindergartner at St. Rose school in Santa Rosa Ca. Our campus as well as the preschool campus was recently devestated by the wildfire in Northern Ca.

Please help us in raising funds to get our preschool and main school a push in getting up and running again.
The best thing for children at a time like this is to provide as much routine and normalcy as possible. This is why we will try to get school re-opened as soon as possible.

The funds from this go fund me acct. will help in getting the classrooms and school necessities needed to get our kids back in class. This can be class supplies/playground equipment/ etc.
I will personally be delivering these funds/products to the school.

Letter from Ms. Ryan-

Dear Parents,

This is a difficult time for all of us. Some of you have experienced great loss and your lives have changed overnight. The rest of us are just trying to figure out how we can support and take care of you and one another. I have been in contact with Fr. Denis who is currently in Ireland, and he joins with our entire faculty and staff in sending our love and prayers to all of you, especially those who have lost homes or livelihoods. The best thing for children at a time like this is to provide as much routine and normalcy as possible. This is why we will try to get school re-opened as soon as possible.

This morning the preschool director, Claudia Oseguera, and I were allowed onto the property to survey the damage to St. Rose. The good news is that the gym and the new modulars are in perfect condition and were miraculously untouched by the fire. Our main building sustained some damage to the roof that is repairable. The primary play structure is gone, as is the covered eating area. Most tragically, our beautiful preschool facility has burned to the ground.

The St. Rose School community has triumphed through many serious catastrophes and I am confident that we will emerge from this one, as we have before, stronger than ever. The preschool is an important part of our school’s program and Claudia and I are exploring the possibilities of providing temporary space for our three to five year olds. Tomorrow I will meet with diocesan officials and Cardinal Newman administration to discuss insurance procedures for the repair and rebuilding of infrastructure and facilities.

Currently, the indication is that school with be closed for approximately two weeks and various school functions that were planned during this period are cancelled.

We are fortunate that at times like this we can rely on our faith in a loving God to see us through. There will be a special Mass for the St. Rose and Cardinal Newman communities that will take place this Thursday evening at 7:30 PM in St. Rose Church. This will give us all the opportunity to experience God’s loving care for us and to comfort one another. Please come and bring your children if you are able.

There continue to be many offers of help. We will notify you of what is needed once we are given permission to begin the repair and rebuilding process. Currently law enforcement officers will not allow us on the property for safety reasons and they strongly discourage anyone from trying to enter the property. As I witnessed first hand, it is just not safe. They assured me that they are constantly patrolling the property.

Please reassure your children that Mr. L’s snakes are safe and comfortable in the science lab. Fuego, the tortoise, is currently living at the Ryan household. Who knew that Mr. L possessed such intuition when he named this pet the Spanish word for fire? Fuego could be our mascot for rising above the ashes.

I will continue to offer updates as time allows. Communication will be easier once our access to internet is improved. This letter is being emailed through our MSP system and will also be posted on Facebook. Please feel free to share it.

With loving prayers,

Kathy Ryan
