It is Illegal to be Gay in Uganda!

The Problem:

It is official! Today, April 3, 2024 the court affirmed the Ugandan Parliaments decision making it Illegal to be Gay in Uganda. Activists on the ground there report vigilante groups are celebrating and taking this as permission to hunt down and beat and/or indiscriminately kill LGBTQ+ people. FEM Alliance Uganda, an NGO is trying to help! Operating in secret, they are attempting to provide vital services such as shelter, food, clothing, counseling, and medicine.

The Urgency:

Their website was taken down by the government so this is the only way to direct money to them. They can no longer apply for grants directly because technically they no longer exist. 4 of their transgender members have already been murdered and numerous members of the community have already been raped, beaten, and/or arrested by gangs and police.

The Need:

Currently, we are renting space at $550 per month. This does not include food or supplies.

Ideally, some day we can purchase a vehicle to safely transport clients as public transportation is where LGBTQ+ people are most vulnerable and most frequently attacked. Additionally, long-term, land and a permanent home will help the NGO avoid constant eviction from landlords.

My Plea:

Bordering African countries are now considering similar laws. Moving is simply not an option.
