Nepal Earthquake

Dear Friends,
Thank you all for reaching out and expressing your concern in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Nepal. My immediate family in Nepal is safe, but there are millions of people who are not so lucky and who desperately need your help. Powerful tremors are ongoing 3 weeks later with no end in sight.
Over the years, people talked about an earthquake being long overdue in Nepal but when it happened the devastation is unimaginable and with the rural poor hit hardest. Even now the full extent of lives lost and damage to settlements closer to the epicenter is not fully known with casualty and damage reports continuing to come in. The emotional and physical trauma to even the ones that have so far been safe is incalculable.
Most of you have been asking me how you can help. Aid comes in variety of scales with a variety of priorities. Large organizations that are focused on immediate relief and rescue have the scale to pull the weight right now. Re-building and specifically, re-situating those who have lost their homes and are too poor build another is going to be a longer and more complex process. That is why I have decided to work closely with my family in Nepal in a more targeted way and have a goal to build houses for 5 impacted families with each house costing roughly USD $2,000 - $2,500. This is where I feel I can help make the most impact and this is where I would ask that you contribute.
We will ensure complete transparency and make sure that we do our best to identify and support efforts that have the maximum impact on communities that in most need. It may take a few months to get there as the country is focused on immediate relief, but we will get there soon enough.
