Syrian Refugee Music Program
Donation protected
Greetings. I am Charles Moselle, professional musician/songwriter (45 years). Born in New Jersey, I now live in the S.F. bay area. I recently went to Chalkida, Greece with a group of musicians from all over the world and spent a week playing music WITH adult Syrian Refugees and teaching the children how to "beatbox" (vocal percussion). Georges Lamamm, Lebanese violinist (extraordinaire) and vocalist, brought everyone (refugees and volunteers alike) to tears, healing souls with his renditions of classic arabic songs. The spirits of the Syrian community were so uplifited that George and I feel we have no choice, one way or an other, that we have to go back. I am also so pleased that my daughter Crystal Moselle, filmmaker and artist will be joining us. We will coordinate our program with volunteers from the Lighthouse Relief organization. Mariana Santoyo, child protectioin coordinator, has started a school there for the children. She informs me the kids are excited to continue learning beatboxing from me. In addition, we will implement my creative music program which I very successfully ran in Juvenile Halls, Prisons, and Urban Ghettos. The idea is to encourage and enable people to access their innate creativity to birth new songs that we help "produce" on my portable recording studio (I can make them sound like "hits". )
We are aiming to leave for Greece in January.
The funds will pay for our flights, food, and lodging, allowing us to spend at least one month at Camp Ritsona. We will also visit other camps in the area. I will supply all necessary musical equipment. Together we will help create a new body of music rising from the creativity of the residents. We also will sing popular Syrian songs that will stir deep emotions, helping refugees process their traumas. Crystal will do art programs with the kids and help with video production. Together we shall join forces to help these people move forward in their lives..
As professional musicians having entertained millions of people over the course of our careers George and I have never experienced music having such a powerfully beneficial effect on any population of people. Now we are ready to find out what can be achieved if we make a deeper committment to this process.
If you choose to donate to this cause, I want to know who YOU are, why you are so moved (unless you choose to be anonymous. ) It is WE who shall help.
The gratitude for your contributions will be shared by the many Refugees that benefit from the birth of their new life. There is no turning back for them. Syria is a total mess. They have to move forward and creatively concieve of their new life.
