Turf for a Town in Need- Marion, AL
Donation protected
Nestled in the heart of the Black Belt, Marion, Alabama is one of the most underserved communities in the nation. Plagued by systemic racism and multi-generational poverty, Marion’s residents struggle to maintain a sense of communal pride. After speaking with representatives from Main Street Marion, a non-profit designed to revitalize the local economy, evidence suggests that there is a need for a space celebrating Marion’s diverse culture and history. One of these places will be a pocket park which will increase the city’s aesthetic and serve as a meeting place for both tourists and residents. Features will include a swing set, sidewalk, sculpture, water feature, and string solar lights. The feature in which this funding will be going towards will be the turf. Though it is not the most economical option, it is the most sustainable. The addition of turf to this park will allow the Marion residents to focus on the beauty of their community without the labor associated with upkeeping natural grass. The hope is that this space will be a foundation for the Marion community to enter a new era of sustained dialogue about the chronic issues inherent to their current way of life. Your support would help us make this hope a reality! Thank you for your support!
