Late last year a report from The Institute for Fiscal Studies showed that UK social mobility is at its worst in over 50 years. It found stark disparities in earnings based on geography and ethnicity.

Having moved to the UK in 2001 I have had first hand experience of these problems. Now in a position and having a platform for change, I have embarked on a journey to help tackle some of these problems.

I am currently involved with three third sector organisations - Catalyst Education Programme, Afro Caribbean Cricket and Anglos United Community Club. In their own way, all three organisations predominantly focus on social mobility and helping tackle some of the challenges.

However running these organisations with limited resources is a massive hurdle. Hence why I am embarking on a five day trek to help raise funds to support all three organisations that I so dearly love.

The trek is to Machu Picchu and the Salkantay Pass in Peru. Over the five days our team of six will cover close to 90km and at its highest elevation will be at 16,000ft.

I’m further encouraged that my son will also be running the TCS Mini London Marathon (21 April 2024) to help me raise much needed funds.

Our nation is facing a social mobility challenge, one which all three of our organisations are looking to solve. We need your help to make our efforts go further.
