Angie was involved in a farm accident mid March. She was tossed 6-8 feet into the air by a bull and landed on her neck. She suffered damage to the C5-7 region of the neck and an incomplete spinal cord injury. As a result, She has been left quadriplegic. She is a full care patient.
Now on to the good news! Angie was @ 8 weeks pregnant when the accident occurred. The baby made it through mom's surgery and is growing fine. Angie is adapting to her new life but, there is something that would help tremendously. Here it is in Angie's own words.
Since my accident in March left me paralyzed from the chest down, the only way for me to leave home is to be dead- lifted (currently 32 weeks pregnant) by my husband who has a diagnosed bad back and put into our car which can't carry my 450lb power chair. I'm unable to sit up sufficiently to be in a manual chair for more than about 10 minutes so basically I can't go anywhere. When I need to go to the doctor, there are services that will come get me in an accessible van but this is only for doctor's appointments, not church, grocery store, voting, parent-teacher meetings at school, or any other activities. Should I go into labor before I am scheduled to be induced, I will have to call for an ambulance because there's no good way to get me into the car. My husband Chris has a truck that, if it were running, could haul me (again, dead-lifting me into and out of the truck) and the power chair but if it's raining, I still can't go anywhere because the chair can't ride in the rain. We don't have the funds available for the purchase of a wheelchair van since I've been unable to work since March and Chris has had to be my primary caregiver and unable to work full time.
Please consider donating some toward a van as it would be a great blessing to me to be able to get out of the house from time to time.
