Trafford Scrubbers help our health heroes SCRUB-UP
We are a growing group of Trafford volunteers working as part of a nationwide initiative to help provide our local health and social care workers with clothing that they can use to help keep them and their patients safe in the midst of Covid-19.
Scrubs are designed to be simple (with minimal places for contaminants to hide), easy to launder, and cheap to replace. A national shortage means staff are trying to manage without enough sets or struggling to get hold of scrubs at all.
So far, we have been relying on the generosity and goodwill of volunteer sewers and other helpers who are parting with their time, digging into their personal pockets and raiding their fabric stashes. We are a resourceful bunch, but re-purposing (clean!) bed sheets and duvet covers will only go so far and we desperately require funds to buy fabric & materials.
It costs on average £10 to assemble a sewing kit for one set of re-usable scrubs, with each health worker requiring at least 2 to 4 sets in a week and often 10 or more changes in a day. We are also sewing scrub wash bags (so that the scrubs can be safely transported home and laundered) and headbands for masks (to save ears from elastic rub).
Please help our sewing army to protect those risking their lives to protect us.
Your donations would mean the world!
· £5 will pay for 2 scrub bags so staff can take their scrubs home to wash.
· £10 will pay for a scrub suit to protect a healthcare worker and their family.
· £30 will provide enough sets of scrubs for one worker for the duration of the pandemic.
Funds raised will be used to cover material and delivery costs so we can make more scrubs and help more NHS and social care workers. Any excess funds at the end of the scrubs shortage will be donated to Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Charity (Registered Charity 1055429) and the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity (Registered Charity 1049274). These charities support NHS work across Greater Manchester and are partners in the Manchester Local Care Organisation which co-ordinates NHS and Local Authority care.
