Todd Orzech's Eagle Scout Project

My name is Todd Orzech and I am a Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 238 in Hickory, Maryland. I am currently raising funds for my Eagle Scout project. To obtain the rank of Eagle, a Scout must “Plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community”. The purpose is to gain experience leading a project, but primarily to give back to the community and make a lasting impression. This project is the culmination of my 11 years in Scouting
My project will be to build two game (chess/checkers) tables with chairs and two horseshoe pits at the Veteran’s Affairs facility at Perry Point, Maryland. The Perry Point VA provides long and short-term care for those who served our country and helps veterans to get back on their feet. The tables and the horseshoe pits will be made of exterior grade lumber. These installations will provide physical and mental activities that allow Veterans to enjoy the outdoors in a quiet venue along the Susquehanna River. The horseshoe pits and game tables will be available for the Veterans that are being cared for at Perry Point on their road to recovery. The horseshoe pits allow relaxation, provide physical activity and competition. The chess tables closer to shore will allow for mental stimulation, and competition while viewing the beautiful waters of the Susquehanna River.
I will be fundraising over the winter and early spring to purchase the building supplies for my project. Please help me in giving back to the Veterans of our community. I am hoping to raise $1700 to support the cost of the exterior grade lumber, sand, mulch, concrete, varnish, hardware, and landscaping supplies. Any leftover funds will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital
