Hello - I am Captain Pete Bombar. I am an avid sailer and would like to give back to our veterans who have served our country. The inspiration to do so came after reading my fathers memoirs from WWII and after visiting his resting place at The Tahoma National Cemetery. I know many veterans and this is my way of giving back to those who keep us safe and free. Please help us to help them. Thank you.

The Sailing -

Freedom Sailing helps military veterans and first responders in the healing process of physical, mental, and emotional trauma by building camaraderie, teamwork, and unity through sailing. Sailing also helps build a supportive, safe and understanding community that is willing to help each other during the process of adjusting to life changes and hardships.

The History -

My father served courageously during WWII fighting hard during the Battle of St Vith in Belgium. When the German Ardennes offensive of December 1944 ruptured the front of the U.S. First Army, American elements were committed to defend selected transportation bottlenecks in the path of the German advance. St. Vith, Belgium, was one of these. 7th Armored Division (106th) reinforced held the position against major elements of two German Panzer Armies for six days, seriously disrupting the Germans timetable. The Americans at St. Vith held their ground until ordered to withdraw. He was captured and spent 5 months as a POW in a Nazi POW camp before being liberated in 1945.
