Standing Chair for Tim

Donation protected
When did you last see Tim standing up? Maybe never, if you are a more recent friend.

In 2005 Tim suffered a spinal cord injury resulting in paraplegia and has been a permanent wheelchair user ever since. While Tim sees the wheelchair as an enabling device and goes everywhere he possibly can in his, sitting down isn't the optimum way to have a conversation in a social gathering, to reach things in high places or to just feel like he's still his full 6'3"... standing regularly also keeps bone density, improves circulation and is simply all-round beneficial. Can you imagine sitting all the time, except for when you are in bed?

For many years we have looked at Levo Standing wheelchairs, they are an ingenious design which is a standard manual wheelchair that uses a gas piston system to move the user from seated to standing in a simple movement, with leg/chest straps to keep him there. So much easier than the rigmarole of hip-high calipers and a walking frame that Tim uses simply to stand, from time to time, but can't really use functionally to move around. It would also be a huge benefit to our home and Tim's health to have a chair that Tim mainly keeps at home just for indoor use. So much cleaner!

If you were thinking of a gift for Tim's birthday, we would love it if you would divert that cash to this purpose and help us to get Tim into a standing chair and standing again. He might even be able to do the dusting from time to time... all of us, especially our kids, would love to see Tim standing again.

Thank you and with love,
Penny & Tim
