As many of you may know, 2 years ago today on Valentine’s Day, we buried our beautiful baby daughter Emily Robyn. On the 7th February 2015, Emily was born. Shortly afterwards, she started to struggle to breathe. She was transferred to Crumlin Children's Hospital but unfortunately she didn't make it. She was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia.
While in the hospital, we were provided with a cuddle cot. This piece of medical equipment acts like a refrigerated bassinet and allows babies to stay in the room with their parents. This was amazing for us and helped us to grieve.
When we were leaving the hospital with our baby, another baby died and due to a shortage of cuddlecots in the hospital we couldn't take the cuddlecot with us as was planned. This was quite distressing at the time as we were not prepared for this. I left the hospital with my baby in my arms and held her on our journey home.
I would love for the Maternity Hospital in Limerick to have enough of these so that every couple going through this would have the opportunity to keep their precious babies with them for a little bit longer at home.
Many of you, friends and family would have been buying Emily a birthday gift. We would love if you could make a donation in lieu of this. For everyone else reading this; you've no idea when someone you know may need this. Please give anything you can, however small. It all makes a difference.
Anything extra collected after the goal is reached will be donated to Feileacain (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland) and other children's charities.
