Bringing Hope & Healing to Iraqi Trauma Survivors

Donation protected
Who are we?
We are a team of problem-solvers from different backgrounds who are joining forces to provide marketing support & concrete solutions for a humanitarian NGO called The Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights.
We’re helping this NGO find creative ways to increase their revenue, so that they can continue to support thousands of survivors of human rights violations in Iraq & Syria, through their Healing Garden.

AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.

How are we doing this?

We are participating in an immersive ‘accelerator’ program through TIE International, which pairs professionals from the developed world with social initiatives in the developing world, with the overall goal of making positive change in the world. For more on TIE’s powerful initiatives, see “Background” below.

Our goal is to not only provide ideas, but tangible actions and outcomes to raise desperately needed funds for trauma survivors.

Our team:

Cyril Awere,
Business Agility Specialist - based in London, UK
Jason Oke,
Cross-Cultural Integrated Marketer - based in Louisiana, USA
Iris Glaser,
Creative Director/Marketer - based in Toronto, Canada.

The project objectives:

This TIE project will help the Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights. Specifically, we will create and implement a strategy to raise funds to support their award-winning Healing Garden, a sanctuary for trauma survivors, many of ISIS cruelty, where patients participate in art therapy. It is located in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, and is the only program of its kind in Iraq & Syria. The population suffered here especially under the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein, and later under ISIS, and many have also been affected by the Syrian civil war.
Our goal is to find a way to help this NGO generate consistent sustainable revenue to ensure they can continue to provide support and treatment to thousands of women, men and children every year.
For more on Jiyan’s important work, see “Background” below.

Our fundraising goal:

Each member of our trio aims to raise US $250, for a total of US $750 - hopefully more! We are appealing to our personal and professional network.

How will your donations be used?

These funds will form our project budget, and will be strictly used in the implementation of this project, most likely to cover marketing expenses such as website development, printing, and advertising. This is in addition to our own time that we are dedicating over the next 6 weeks. As this project is still at the kick-off stage, we have not yet determined the precise solution or the funds required to implement it. But we promise to update you on the project’s outcomes so that you know how your donation has made an impact.

Time is ticking.

Our project is kicking off, and wraps up in late November 2020, so we need your help NOW!

Additional Background:

Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights
https://www.jiyan-foundation.org/

The Jiyan Foundation opened their first treatment center for victims of torture in the city of Kirkuk, Iraq, in 2005. Since then, they have established a network of over twelve facilities in northern Iraq and northern Syria, supporting thousands of women, men and children every year, where they have treated over 60,000 medical cases and more than 35,000 survivors of torture, trauma, and violence have received mental health services.

Their programs benefit thousands of survivors of torture and violence. About half of them are women, another third are children and adolescents. Iraq and Syria have a long history of violent conflict, human rights violations and a lack of rule of law. The dictatorship, wars, and ISIS terror have left their mark on the region.

Mental health treatment is still very much taboo in this region. Over the past 15 years, the Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights has sought to normalize mental-health treatment and psychotherapy in the region while also providing these services to survivors of trauma and violence.

Many of their beneficiaries are survivors of ISIS torture, military gas attacks, and have lived under regimes of terror. Many more still live in refugees housing and IDP camps where life remains difficult. To help their beneficiaries heal, they provide various forms of therapy at 13 facilities throughout northern Iraq and Syria.
