6000 Babies, Children and Teens Need Your Help

Over 4,100 young assylum and refugee seeking children and teens are being held in my community and I’m asking for your compassion and help.

Migrant children and families are sleeping shoulder to shoulder on mats in my community’s Texas border facility which was designed for 250 adults  

Infants and young children are being cared for by older siblings in a playpen area in the processing facility in Donna, Texas. Some are accompanied by their parents, others are hoping to reunite with them in the U.S.  

This is not about Red or Blue states. This is not about Covid either. Every single one is tested for Covid. The average positivity rate is 7% while the Texas average has been 13%. It’s about why Central America’s children are fleeing by the thousands, literally risking life and limbs, to escape cartel  violence, human trafficking, and climate change induced droughts plus two hurricanes which in 2020 destroyed all their crops. So it’s either live on half a corn tortilla with salt as their only meal of the day or try and survive by heading North. 

I am asking you to help me support the nationally recognized charity, Team Brownsville who have stepped up to help our young refugees reunite with their families or sponsors across the U.S. All have had their shoe laces taken away by Customs when they were taken into custody but they don’t get them back. They are wearing the same clothes they’ve had on for the last seven days and the few personal-items they have are in their pockets. The volunteer run Team Brownsvillle feeds them while they wait for their buses. They give them backpacks with hygiene supplies, tampons or pads, new T-shirt’s, underwear or diapers, socks plus food/snacks for the road and they get new shoe laces plus the little ones get coloring books and crayons for the trip as they leave our community with instructions for their long trips knowing that they are loved, respected and welcomed.

I am asking you to help me support my heroes at Team Brownsvillle and I promise to send you pictures of the backpacks, crayons and hygiene supplies, etc that we will buy in bulk with your support. Their is no overhead, no person is getting paid.  Everything we collect from this fundraiser will directly benefit these children and show them that they are loved and welcomed in the U.S.  Please look into your heart and share what you can spare. Covid has made life difficult for all of us but imagine if these were your siblings or kids. Wouldn’t you want someone to help them?
