Things are changing fast as Phoenix re-development expands west of Central Avenue. Those who came before, as much and those who are still to come, deserve to understand who and what Melrose was, is, and how it’s growing. These truths are best revealed by those who live, transact, invest, and experience Melrose.

Communication is two-way.

Too often, “journalists” descend upon communities to extract just enough tid-bits to tantalize those who don’t know any better, and leave behind little but frustration for those whom the information affects most. This practice can overwhelm, if it doesn’t inform.

Why a magazine?

Because this neighborhood deserves to dictate its own destiny. You’ve earned It! T.M.L. can  help, but we can’t do it alone. T.M.L. would not exist without the precious support of some of the same people who’ve made this ‘hood what it is today, and you know what? THAT is how the discipline we call “journalism” began.

In 2018, literally anyone can publish information to the masses about whatever they want. Farthest from us is to stifle free expression, but more than ever it takes a dedication to truth – by definintion: a sum meaning of all known facts – to show a neighborhood of creative risk-takers what they look like to each other, and the outside.

Your actions and words are the record of Melrose.

What do you want to know?  The more direction you give T.M.L., the more reflection we’ll give you. We also need your support finanically and philosophically. We can’t – won’t – do this without both. Visit thismelroselife.com to submit content, questions, ask about advertising, and take surveys!

T.M.L. asks for your contribution, however you best see fit. We need your feedback, your facts, your truths, your opinions, WE DEFINITELY NEED YOUR PHOTOS and your tips.

Real people celebrate solutions to challenges, and real journalists document both.

Those who live, work, and invest in communities are both the suppliers and end-users of information about that community, and it is by no coincidence that the words trust and truth share the same root. Digital mediums are vast and noisy oceans of information. People can only rely upon the word of others, or their data, when they trust that information has been filtered for undue bias. This comes from a respect for facts, notadherence to any one particular agenda.

Facts are things or actions that can be perceived by one or more of the five human “faculty” senses. Every person perecives the world differently, the facts are the parts on which we base our truths and opinions.

Growth is necessary, and sometimes uncomfortable.

As a matter of practice, This Melrose Life subscribes to the philosophies of The Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics, with extra sensitivity to the private lives of residents, trade competition of merhcants, and the subjectivity of real-estate markets.

S.P.J. Code of Ethics:

Seek and report truth.
Be accountable.
Be independent.
Minimize harm.
