Help Lindsay Beat This Brain Tumour
Beschermde donatie
Lindsay aged 19 was diagnosed with a brain tumour (Glioma) in July 2013 after 2 years of debilitating illness.
In July 2013 our lives changed forever when he collapsed and became unconscious suffering a grand mal (Tonic Clonic) seizure which eventually led to his diagnosis of a brain tumour in his left temporal lobe.
Being told by a Neurosurgeon that surgery was not recommended due to the risks and the impact it could have to his cognitive function such as communication was not what we expected to hear.
Our son suffers intractable epilepsy (intractable epilepsy is when seizures cannot be controlled effectively by anti seizure medication), he can suffer as many as 20 seizures in a day, he also suffers pain, nausea and lack of appetite.
Seizures have become a scary part of our daily lives and Lindsay requires 24/7 support because of seizures.
Lindsay has both tonic clonic (grand mal) seizures and focal seizures. The focal seizures can impact him with "speech arrest" for anything from a few minutes right up to 2 and 3/4 hours and this leaves him unable to communicate and often he also cannot understand others during this time.
Lindsay has also had many seizures where he has aspirated and at times ended up with pneumonia and complications from that.
Lindsay has travelled overseas for treatment for his brain tumour 4 times in 2014 successfully.
Overseas the treatment options available effectively control his seizures, pain, nausea and also help to reduce the size of his tumour, this provides him a good quality of life.
Currently we are raising money for Lindsay to have treatments overseas as soon as possible, we are also raising money for ongoing medication and medical costs which are likely to cost tens of thousands of dollars every year.
Lindsay will also be starting some new treatments for his brain tumour in Canada and will be under the care of a team of 7 doctors and specialists from Canada and the USA.
The funds raised will assist Lindsay in obtaining treatment overseas and the ongoing cost of medicines when they are available in Australia which we expect to be substantial.
There is nothing Lindsay would love more than to be able to get on with his life like a normal young adult, he would love to have good seizure control or be completely free from seizures and the risks and impacts of this brain tumour. Please help this become a reality for him.
This has already been an incredibly long and taxing journey for our entire family over the past 7 years of illness and we know it may still be a long journey ahead.
Please help if you can by sharing this fundraiser or donating if you can and please help Lindsay beat this brain tumour!
We are very grateful for your support.
