This #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth, we are amplifying and mobilizing to support five incredible grassroots organizations. An intersectional and cross-sector approach is necessary to end sexual violence and support survivors, but the organizations that don’t get substantial media publicity or visibility are often the ones doing the groundwork to support the most marginalized communities. Join us in supporting this incredible ecosystem of organizations fighting to end sexual violence from various angles of work.
All funds will be equally distributed through the following organizations:
(1) Direct Service: House of Ruth , a nonprofit organization that offers comprehensive support to women, children and families to rebuild their lives and heal from trauma, abuse and homelessness.
(2) Financial Support: FreeFrom , a national organization whose mission is to dismantle the nexus between intimate partner violence and financial insecurity.
(3) Digital Advocacy: Space to Speak , an organization dedicated to giving youth a leading voice in the sexual violence prevention movement.
(4) Coalition building: Red Canary Song , a grassroots collective of Asian & migrant sex workers organizing transnationally in Toronto, Paris and HK that serves as the only grassroots Chinese massage parlor worker coalition in the U.S.
(5) Prevention: Black Women's Blueprint , a transnational Black feminist organization which celebrates and seizes the opportunities of the African diaspora, all while mourning the violent conditions that created it. BWB created and manages Sistas Van, a trauma-informed survivor-centered Mobile Healing Unit.
April 2021 marks the official 20th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This movement is an annual campaign established by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.
