The Silver Closet - A non-profit for seniors in need.
There are seniors in the Twin Cities moving into low income and subsidized senior housing without the daily necesseties. Imagine moving into a new apartment and having to sit on the floor because you don't have the money to furnish it with something as simple as a chair, or a bed.
These Seniors Need Your Help
There are many charitable organizations that provide household items, but many are only available to those already enrolled in county programs, have a 2 month long wait time, and cost money to access. There are many seniors with less than $100 per month to spend on their daily needs. They are making tough decisions between buying prescription medications or groceries. It is simply impossible for them to think about furnishing an apartment. This is a grossly under-served population with some very simple needs.
Through a collaboration of senior housing professionals, social workers, moving companies, and volunteers, we will solve this problem.
The solution is simple.
~We collect gently used furniture and daily household goods.
~We store them in our warehouse
~We deliver the goods to seniors in low-income and subsidized senior housing communities
Our Business Model
We offer clean out services to people who are downsizing and moving out of their home. This service gives people peace of mind that they can move, take what they love with them, and leave the rest to us. We'll find a good home for your donations! We offer a complimentary price estimate for the clean out, and a tax deduction for furniture donated to The Silver Closet.
Your Donation
The Silver Closet's business model is to generate revenue from it's clean out service program to cover administrative costs and warehouse costs. We are then able to use your in-kind donation to i) deliver furniture to seniors who aren't able to pay ii) purchase household goods if we don't have them in our warehouse iii) assist an entire group of seniors-who today- are falling between the cracks with no service options available to them. Your donation is used to directly help our seniors.
