3,500km Across India in a Rickshaw

Donation protected
Hello friends and family!

This August the three of us, Johnny, Cameron, and Oscar, will fly to India to complete the Rickshaw Run -  a two week, 2,200 mile journey from Shillong to Cochin in a tiny three-wheeled motorized rickshaw. This means that we’ll be driving the equivalent distance of Seattle to Chicago in a seven horsepower vehicle with a top speed of 35mph.

This is what our glorious three-wheeled steed will look like:

The run is completely unguided and unsupported, meaning we’re in charge of planning the route and repairing the rickshaw when it breaks down (everyday).

Along the way we’ll face many challenges. We’ll inevitably break down many times, contract some form of diarrhea, and be exhausted for much of the trip. However, we’ll experience and discover new places, people, and cultures that we’d never otherwise have the opportunity to encounter – priceless aspects. And it’s all for a great cause. We’ll be documenting our entire journey through photos and video, and we’ll be sharing our progress along the way as frequently as we can.

We're doing this journey as part of the Rickshaw Run, which you can learn more about  at http://www.theadventurists.com/rickshaw-run/

Who are we?

Oscar Marczynski:

Oscar probably has some giraffe DNA in his blood, and we’re all wondering how exactly he’ll be able to squeeze into a rickshaw in the first place. He enjoys filmmaking, building things, and raising his parents’ blood pressure by coming up with crazy adventures such as this one.

Johnny Knutsen:

Johnny is a 21 year old from the heart of San Francisco, California. He is a student of comedy and also finds deep fulfillment through reading and studying design. He sees this crazy adventure as a great opportunity to bond with new friends, explore different parts of the world, and document it all.

Cameron Coupe:

The only way to describe Cameron is that he is a seasoned adventurer. Having graced the planet with his presence for only 21 years, he has already walked from Seattle to New York and biked from Seattle to Mexico. He is looking to address his desire for adventuring in a foreign country and is confident in his ability to handle a rickshaw!

What We Need

In order to participate in the Rickshaw Run, we first have to raise at least $1,500 for charity. That’s our first and largest goal. But we can also really use, and would really appreciate, your help with the following costs associated with the trip:

     - Registration Fees
     - Visas
     - Fuel
     - Repairs
     - Lodging

The first $1500 we raise will go toward the minimum charity goal. After that we’ll split the remaining funds between charity and actually turning this insane trip into a reality.

For everyone who donates, we'd love to show our appreciation with the following gift tiers:

$10 - Thank you! You'll be listed as a supporter in the credits of the epic video we make.

$25 - We'll send you a postcard from somewhere in India! And you'll also be listed in the credits.

$50 - We'll print and send you a few of our favorite photos from the trip after we get home. As well as everything above.

$100 - We'll bring you back a surprise gift from India! It won't be determined until we're actually there, but we promise it'll be at least as cool as you are. As well as everything above.

$250 - We'll send you a beautiful photo book documenting our innevitably eventful and perilous journey. We can't know what it'll look like yet, but we know it'll be epic.  As well as everything above.

$500 - You are amazing! We can't thank you enough. You get to join us...kind of. We'll bring a photo of you to India and you'll ride with us every step of the way. We'll take photos with you in front of anything we think is cool. You get to be a part of the adventure without the diarrhea, heat, or near-death traffic. As well as everything above of course.

The Charities

Seattle Children’s provides immediate and long term care to sick children. Their mission is to provide the safest, most effective care possible while reducing the cost of providing care in order to make it accessible to everyone. With the help of donations, they can reduce the cost for procedures, making care more easily accessible to all.

In their words..
“We believe all children have unique needs and should grow up without illness or injury. With the support of the community and through our spirit of inquiry, we will prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease.”

Cool Earth is the charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction.

By building better incomes, better schools and better clinics, Cool Earth gives their partner villages the resources they need to keep their forest intact.

Cool Earth is now working alongside 65 rainforest villages throughout the world, and these partner villages are protecting over 350,000 acres of forest that lie directly in the path of chainsaws and bulldozers.

The clever part is that this forest is forming a shield to make the neighbouring forest inaccessible to loggers – saving millions of acres of further forest.

More ways to help

We understand that not everyone can donate financially, and that’s totally fine. We have a few more ways you can help out:

Sharing! Please share our campaign and our Facebook page to your network. Any exposure helps and we’re sure you know someone who would be interested in supporting or following our progress on social media.

If you think you have any gear, supplies, or wisdom to donate or bestow on us, we’re all ears. We’ll be packing very light, but you never know what could come in handy.

Finally please follow our progress on facebook and instagram, we’ll do our best to post as many updates as we can from the road.

Thank you for your support, we really do appreciate it!
