Sometimes even Wizards need a bit of help.
My lovely friend Ian, performance name the Wizard of Obz is currently homeless, and just needs a little bit of support as they look for a job and a home.
I am currently living in a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa called Observatory (Obz) and this is where I met this fabulous queer, trans, drag performing, ball walking, Wizard. Ian feels like kin, and I have loved being their friend over the last few weeks. We all know how dangerous it is for trans femme humans to be on streets, and I really want to give my friend some support. To do this, I need your help.
Ian has been homeless for a little while now and they are desperately in need of a job and then a home. It is really hard to find work when you are homeless and so I would like to be able to organise for them to have accommodation for 8 weeks. The house I am currently staying in has a spare room and I can book it for Ian for the next 8 or more weeks. Staying here will ensure they have a (mostly) homophobic free space, access to the internet, a printer and I will make sure they are well fed. Having 8 weeks of accommodation will give them the breathing space they need to look for work, rather than spend all their time looking for somewhere safe to sleep.
A room in my house is US$15 a night (a backpackers is around US$20, so its a much better deal) and a week is US$105 a week. This works out to be $1250 in Australian dollars to ensure Ian has safe, secure accommodation, plus food for the next 8 weeks. I, and more so Ian, would be so grateful for any help you can offer.
