One Dream Destroyed... But...

More than 10 years ago, I married Rosa Elena Madrid and became David and Gabby's father. It was not long after that we began the legal process for me to adopt them as my own.  We hired lawyers and filed all the papers and were within one signature from a judge which would have made me their father and them United States Citizens but he would not sign the papers, saying that we had to get permission from the corrupt child welfare system here in Honduras.  That was as close as we came to actually having a legal adoption that would confer citizenship.  These kids have lived in my house, I have taken care of them, have treated them as my own but we need someone else's approval to have them adopted.  So we start over.

With this new process another nightmare developed. The people involved in this evil and corrupt system in the Honduran government "IHNFA" would rather see children starve here in orphanages than have a chance at a better life as adopted children anywhere in the world. They actually were shut down and the director fired for corruption in the middle of our process.  Our case has been hung up in this nightmare of IHNFA for more than 2 years for a total of more than 5 years in total, and the legal ages for US adoptions has past. So the end of this part of the story is that David and Gabby will never have my last name, they will never be my legally adopted children, they will not be US Citizens as they should have been because I was there father! The government of Honduras has robbed so much from both them and us.  Yes I am bitter about the whole situation, who would not be but we must go on...

So there is one thing left that we can do, even though they can not be my adopted children, I can apply to bring them to the states as legal residents and 5 years from now and many, many thousands of dollars they should be able to apply and become US Citizens.  The Honduran Government has stolen my right for these children who I have raised, loved, cared for and supported for the largest part of their life, they stole my right to be their legal father.

But it is my hope that you will help us to at least let them have their dream to be able to study, and live in the USA if that is their choice in the future.  Even as my heart breaks that they will never be legally mine, I ask you to help me to give them a future, and a hope whatever that looks like post Obama. This money will be used to file all the necessary paperwork to get
