A few months ago just before Christmas, Theo was diagnosed with Lowe Syndrome, which answered a few questions but raised about a million more.
Lowe syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that occurs almost exclusively in males.
Lowe syndrome is characterized by vision problems including clouding of the lenses of the eyes (cataracts) that are present at birth, kidney problems that usually develop in the first year of life, and brain abnormalities that are associated with intellectual disabilities.
There is no cure for Lowe syndrome but medication and therapy have significantly increased the life expectancy of those impacted while also greatly improving the quality of life.

Theo Oliver Thompson is the bravest and strongest little guy and truly our hero! Theo turned 6 months recently and has more than doubled his birth weight, making his pediatrician very happy. Theo has a few more surgeries to get through this month but has already undergone bilateral cataract surgery to remove his cataracts, and now endures his parents’ attempts at hard contact lens insertion/removal. He also tolerates his glasses fairly well, although it’s more difficult now that he is rolling around so much!
He’s quite the busy guy with all of his therapies (he is a hard-working boy!!) and Dr. appts, but he is resilient as heck through all the pokes and prods and somehow always has a smile on his face when he gets to cuddle up with mom at the end of the day! We are beyond proud of him for hitting goals at his own pace; right now it’s lifting his head, rolling over, gripping toys and getting as plump as possible! Theo’s spunky and loving personality shines through and brightens every room he is in as he is always grinning and blowing raspberries.
He constantly makes us proud and inspires us. We love our little TOT more than words can say!!
