Help a Young Person's Charity The Market Place

Tax deductible
My name is Lucy, I am a Youth Worker at The Market Place which is an emotional wellbeing and mental health charity for young people in Leeds City centre. I would like to fundraise for this charity as I am passionate about issues around mental health and young people. I have set the fundraising target to £2020, maybe a little ambitious, but I just want to share that you can turn a negative year 2020 in a positive one, with community and Kindness.

About The Market Place

The Market Place is based in Leeds City centre, it provides both long term and short-term counselling support, youth work support, workshops, group work and a Drop-in service open 7 days a week. All services are free and available for young people in Leeds to support emotional well-being and positive mental health in a safe confidential, non-judgemental environment.

Due to the current situation with coronavirus and being on lockdown, The Market Place has developed a new telephone support service, running between 12-6pm 7 Days a week for ages 11-25.

Fundraising could help with lots of things like:

• Travel Expenses for young people
• Craft material for young people who find it difficult to talk but will engage in creative activities, resources, games etc.
• In the current Covid situation- extra training for staff around working online.
• Support with additional cost from telephone support.
• Resources to have around the service when things start to ease. E.g. hand sanitiser, masks, anti-bacterial cleaning wipes, anti-bacterial soap etc.

Here is an Example of my new KINDness activity

Recently I have started running, which I find really challenging. I have downloaded the Nike Run app on my phone which is offering guided Mindful runs with Headspace the meditation and mindfulness app. Its more active than sitting down for a meditation, and helps you to distract from your thoughts, whilst getting the body moving, and helping you connect mental and physical activity. They have lots of different runs such as Running on Empty, Stress Free run, not motivated run, Breaking through Barriers, and recovery Run. You can connect your own music, and you are guided and coached throughout. It has honestly changed my whole approach to running, and the benefits to my mental and physical health has improved a lot, which is really important at this time when some days we just feel like we are running on empty, as the run suggests.
