In the fall of 2016, Patrick Inman was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This disease causes a progressive degeneration of the motor neurons, leading to eventual inability to use the body’s voluntary muscles. Over time he will lose his ability to move, eat, swallow, talk, and breath. This is a terminal illness with no cure, and little in the way of treatment options are available. Typical lifespan is 2-5 years from the onset of symptoms. Patrick’s symptoms began in the Fall of 2015 as weakness in his shoulder. He’s since become significantly weaker in all 4 limbs, although he is still walking, talking, and taking care of his day to day needs. Patrick quit working in November to focus on his health.
Patrick and his family have expressed the desire to create family experiences and memories while he is still able to move under his own power. He has a daughter, Abby Rain, who is 12 years old, and a son, Carter, who is 16. Patrick and Starla have been together for over 20 years and have been married for nearly 18 of those years.
We’re asking for your help with expenses for Patrick and his family to go on a memorable vacation as well as to help with the upcoming financial challenges they will face. They are currently looking at costs to remodel a bathroom to make it accessible for Patrick as his disease progresses. They will face other home modification challenges in the coming year as Patrick’s mobility and motor function decrease further. Chairlifts, stair-lifts, accessible doorways, etc are all concerns for the family as they move forward.
